In addition to the city's "Just for Laughs" comedy festival, International Jazz Festival, World Film Festival and Les Francofolies French-language festival of song, major gay-oriented events take place as well. Every year Montréal's Bad Boy Club organizes mega-events which attract huge crowds of visitors and local residents alike. The "Wet and Wild" event in spring, and the "Black and Blue" festival in fall regularly draw some 40 000 participants. In the summer the annual Divers-Cité gay pride extravaganza attracted a crowd estimated at close to 500 000! Sports fans will find three major league teams in Montréal: our famous hockey team, the Canadiens; the Montréal Expos baseball club ; and, our own Canadian professional football team, the Alouettes. These teams utilize comfortable, modern facilities and ticket prices are affordable. In March, Québec City offers its unique gay and lesbian celebration Fest*Iver : a celebration of winter activities in the area.

Gay Events in Montreal
The gay and lesbian community puts on a great party, and its summer festivals are an important part of Montreal culture. The gay and lesbian community plays a significant role in Montreal's spectacular festival season that includes other world-class events such as the Montreal Fireworks Competition and the Just for Laughs Comedy Festival. At no time is the energy of the Gay Village more evident than during the colorful celebrations of the Festival des Arts in July, or during the Divers/Cité Gay and Lesbian Pride Celebration in August. Over a million participants flock to the city each year to take part in the liberating activities that mark each event, including parades and free outdoor shows by prominent performers.

Montreal's bed and breakfasts in and around the Gay Village are some of the finest in the world. It's just with the city's phenomenal popularity among gay tourists, there just aren't enough rooms! Tourism Montreal estimates over one million gay and lesbian tourists visit the city every year.

The Gay Village
Montreal is also home to the 'Gay Village', one of the largest gay and lesbian neighborhoods in the world. While the city is known for its joie-de-vivre, including electric dance clubs, fanciful restaurants and charming bistros, the gay Village is no exception, with its sub-culture of gay and lesbian residents that bring the streets to life. The Gay Village is one of Montreal's most colorful neighborhoods, from its interesting gay shops, gay restaurants and gay nightlife scene to its free-spirited residents.

Recognized as one of North America's most cosmopolitan cities, Montreal has become a preferred destination of choice for gay travel and gay vacations. Located in the Province of Quebec, where same sex partners are legally afforded the same status as heterosexual partners, Montreal is home to a thriving gay and lesbian community that is estimated to represent 15% of the city's population of more than 3 million.
