1. Hit 855 putts: Reno-Tahoe has
43 public golf courses and seven private courses all within 90
minutes of the Reno-Tahoe International Airport. America’s
Adventure Place blends the best of high desert and high mountain
terrain to offer courses for those just getting hooked to PGA
TOUR professionals. Reno-Tahoe is home to the August PGA TOUR
Reno-Tahoe Open, as well as South Lake Tahoe’s annual Century
Celebrity Classic held each July. 2. Hike or mountain bike 968
miles of trail: From leisurely recreational trails just minutes
from downtown Reno to mountains that challenge with intermediate
trails and awe-inspiring vistas overlooking the Reno-Sparks and
Carson valley, as well as Lake Tahoe, to the ultimate adventurer
challenge—165-mile Tahoe Rim Trail that circles the Tahoe basin

any of the 18 world-class ski, board and cross-country resorts
all within 90 minutes of the airport. Annually the resorts offer
national championships and demos, as well as special events such
as the annual celebration of Elvis’ birthday at Mt. Rose-Ski
Tahoe—definitely a must see. 4. Water sports available on more
than 400 square miles: As North America’s largest alpine lake,
the water in Lake Tahoe could cover a flat area the size of
California by 14 inches and is 99.9 percent pure offering
visibility to 75 feet below the surface. In addition to Tahoe,
water enthusiasts can take to boats, skis, wakeboards, kayaks,
catamarans, wind surfers and sail boats at any number of desert
and alpine lakes including Pyramid Lake, the second largest lake
in the region, and Donner Lake. 5. Visit 31 museums: Reno-Tahoe
is home to Nevada’s only accredited fine-arts museum, the Nevada
Museum of Art (NMA), as well as 31 other museums including the
Stewart Indian Museum, offering a historical look at the Native
American culture, the Nevada State Railroad Museum, offering a
glimpse into Nevada’s heritage as well as home to the mint, and
the National Automobile Museum, home to the famed Harrah’s
automobile collection, to name a few. 6. Try Lady Luck 15,000
times: Try your luck at one of the 14,000 slot machines or throw
some dice at any of the 600 first-class tables or watch as the
top players compete in the televised World Poker Tour
Championships. 7. Fish at 250 fishing holes: Throw a couple of
spinners at the Kokanee salmon in Lake Tahoe, catch a couple of
killer cutthroat trout in Pyramid Lake or toss some flies in the
Truckee River, home to both brown and rainbow trout,
conveniently accessible from downtown Reno’s or just minutes by
car. 8. Enjoy special events and festivals 158 days a year:
Immerse yourself in one of the Reno-Tahoe’s 76 community-wide
special events including the Wildest Richest Rodeo in the West,
Artown, Lake Tahoe Shakespeare Festival, Hot August Nights, Best
